Locals’ Take: Look for the farm-fresh ice cream spots
Locals’ Take is a summary of our team’s and guest guides’ collective experiences with ice cream shops in the Lancaster area.
There’s something special — almost nostalgic — about enjoying a dish of ice cream while overlooking the farmland that helped create it. It’s a simple pleasure that connects you to Lancaster County’s heritage while offering a refreshing treat. You’ll find spots like this all over the county.
One of our favorites is Old Barn Creamery, a relatively newer ice cream shop. Coming from Lancaster, your drive there will take you through stunning countryside, winding past steep cliffs and rolling hills outside Marticville before arriving at the creamery. There’s seating both inside and out, but the outdoor deck is the perfect place to take in the scenery. Just across the road, an Amish family runs the farm that supplies the business with fresh-baked goods, ice cream, and more.
